Larris Academy (Long Term)
Brief Description Larris Academy is a private
school in New Legon, Accra. It accommodates students from Kindergarten 1 to
Class 6 and has roughly 75 students enrolled. The school is equipped with
modern learning facilities and a clean environment for excellent child
education. We believe that international volunteers will also make an impact
since children are eager to learn something new.
Main
Aims / Activities To provide
excellence in education and support to all children at the school so that they
can learn, develop a strong pride, work hard, and lead good lives through
academic achievement and responsible citizenship. We enable the children to play and work independently
and yet be able to share and cooperate with others. Also teach them the sense
of respect and self confidence yet be aware of the needs of others. We give the
children the knowledge of skills and practical activities. We make them aware
and respect different customs and culture. To teach the children to communicate
effectively through speech, music art and sport.
Volunteer tasks - to play the
role of teaching assistants - assisting in
the classroom, helping to coordinate activities with children - assist weak
children to read and write as well as to complete their home work - provide
counseling services - engage
children in outdoor games - football etc - participate in
classroom activities, encouraging children to learn - assist with
the library where necessary - volunteers are
to assist in teaching pre-school ages 2-4 years and junior secondary school

Requirements / Skills - Good knowledge of the English language - Interest in
very young children - caring nature,
patience, tolerance - ability to
work as part of a team - be ready to
assist children
Location New Legon, Accra Hosting Situation (Board
& Lodging) Volunteers
will live with a host family. Volunteers should be informed that they might be
sharing a room with other volunteers.
