General information/What is expected of Volunteers in Ghana.
1. Hospitality: Ghanaians are known for their warm hospitality. Expect to receive a friendly welcome.
2. Language: English is the official language. But you may encounter local dialects. Learn basic phrases in Twi (widely spoken dialect)

Consult your doctor or a travel clinic to determine the necessary vaccinations for travel to Ghana.

Respect for Elders: In the Ghanaian society, respect for elders is very important. Show deference by greeting them first and use tittles like Mr, Mrs, Madam, Sir etc.

Greetings: Always greet people first when you enter an area. In a large area or group, a wave and greeting is acceptable. otherwise, you may wonder why people are just looking at you when you entered. They are waiting for you to offer a greeting, which will be received with a big smile and a warm reply.

Cultural Sensitivity: Be respectful of the customs and traditions of the people. Avoid imposing your own cultural Norms.

Flexibility: Be prepared to adapt to a different way of life.
Skills required of a Volunteer.
Both skilled and unskilled Volunteers are welcome to Volunteer with ICYE Ghana.

Note that, we canβt guarantee volunteers a place in a particular project or city, as there could be more volunteers interested, and the matching would also depend on someoneβs experiences, competences, motivation and language level.
