Conference Camp

Exchangees will arrive at one port of entry and that is – THE KOTOKA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, ACCRA. Exchangees will be received by the National Committee members and a team of coworkers. You will be sent directly to the venue of the orientation camp or you will stay with a host family for some few days before proceeding to the camp. The camp will last from 8 to 10 days. The camp will include a language course in Akan for all exchangees. It is very important that everyone at least have a basic understanding of the language before they join their host family or into the work placement. This camp is compulsory for all exchangees.

MID - Year Camp

Mid-year camps are also compulsory for all exchangees. The venue of the camp will be different from where the orientation camp took place. It normally takes place in February. This is a chance for you to review your first six months in Ghana. It is a good time to bring ICYE up to date in both your positive and negative experiences so far, as far as sharing experiences with other exchangees. The camp will last from three to four days.

Final evaluation camp

The final evaluation camp is held in May or early June for about three or four days. Ghanaian exchangees preparing to travel on the programme will also be present. Its two main purposes are: a chance for exchangees to look back on their year in Ghana before heading back to their own countries. There is also an opportunity for ICYE-GHANA to evaluate the year’s events and plan for the future. Your comments and active participation in the conference will help to improve the programme for future exchangees. Exchangees who know that they will have to return home early for any reason such as to continue school etc. must notify the ICYE-GHANA office well in advance. This camp is also compulsory for all exchangees. The ICYE Annual Evaluation form will be filled at this camp.
